Oh my word. How on Earth did they screw up the Guitar Hero series so much? After spending countless hours with Rock Band, going into the Guitar Hero: Van Halen demo was nauseating.
The models on the screen look like some weird combination between Tim Burton's claymation characters, the Muppets, and a Latex factory exploding, in fact I think they brought Animal in to mo-cap the drummer.
There's little to no indication of whether or not you hit a note. Yes, I know there's an obnoxious burst of fire, but I'm not watching that part of the screen enough to tell, and the little multiplier meter of lights stuck onto the side of the fretboard might as well not be there. Even if you're doing poorly on a song you don't know until the entire fretboard starts flashing red.
The interface in general is just antiquated and poorly designed, the only way I even knew I had "Star Power" was because I knew I had hit two star power phrases.
Just, ugh. How on Earth do people still PLAY this series? And have fun at that?
